Thalassaemia Federation of Pakistan in collaboration with Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore organized the 7th National Thalassaemia Conference & workshops at Lahore from April 23-24, 2011. A large number of participants attended the conference, which included Thalassaemics, parents, doctors, paramedical staff, social workers, society officials and volunteers attended the conference. All the Thalassaemia associations and 39 Centers working in the country participated in this annual event. Dr. Farrukh Shah, representative of Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) also participated in the conference and presented on blood transfusion and iron chelation in Thalassaemics. The conference�s scientific sessions and workshops were specifically designed to develop the capacity of doctors and other paramedical staffs working in the country in the management and prevention of Thalassaemia. The conference highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, optimal treatment, patients safety and prevention of Thalassaemia. The subjects discussed in the scientific session covered the clinical spectrum, as well as the prevention of Thalassaemia. The conference included workshops and scientific sessions on Clinical Management of Thalassaemia and its complications, Iron Chelation Therapy, Patients & Parents Session and workshop on Prevention of Thalassaemia. The Inauguration Ceremony of the 7th National Thalassaemia Conference & Workshops was held on April 23, 2011 at Main Auditorium of Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore. During the inauguration ceremony, Awards of Excellence were also given to five Thalassaemic patients, who have shown outstanding performance in education or extracurricular activities. The Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of Thalassaemia Federation of Pakistan was also held on April 23, 2011 at the Main Auditorium, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore. During the AGM, elections of the executive committee members for the next two years were also held. Lt. Gen (R.) Moin Ud Din Haider, the president of Thalassaemia Federation of Pakistan presided the Annual General Body Meeting and all the 39 Thalassaemia societies working in the country attended this important meeting. The Banquet Dinner of the Conference was held on April 23, 2011 at Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore. All the registered participants and the facilitators of workshops and scientific sessions attended the banquet dinner.
